Language of Family, Friends, and Faith.

Family and Friends to me is the most important thing after my Faith. Faith is but a mere mustard seed in the mountains that we call life. My faith is mine and mine alone, and I will share it with you from time to time.

I would like to tell you about the most important people in my life. First there is my immediate family, my husband Marvin, our 3 fur babies, Duke, Macy, and Tucker!! Marvin works as a machinist for an optical lab. I work doing various things, I guess you could say I am a "Jill of all trades" doing mostly childcare, and cakes, but am able to many, many things.

Secondly there is my momma, she isn't mother or mom, but always my momma. Most people grow up to say "gosh I hope I am nothing like my mother," but that's the complete opposite for me. I pray I am half the mother my momma is. She has always been there, through every tear, and every smile! She is married to the greatest step-dad ever, Randy. He is so funny and so good to my momma! They live here in Huntsville, right next door to me.  

Then there are my siblings Corrie, my sister and Joey, my brother. Corrie is married to J.R. and they currently reside in Ohio. I have been blessed to have a solider for a brother-in-law, he is in the United States Air Force, so their home depends on where the AF would like them. While I miss my sister every single day, I do enjoy having somewhere new to visit! They have 3 fur babies as well, a boxer named Elle and 2 kitties named Midnight, and Luna. Oh how I love to see my fur family.  Moving on to my brother, Joey, the strong willed, heavily opinionated, smart mouth man I love to call my little brother. Joey and his ever so special girlfriend Stacy, live in Springdale and they have 2 fur babies, Kano the dog, and Binxy the kitty. Stacy comes to us from Arizona, she is so smart and funny, and is a good woman to put up with my brother!!

My dad is Arvel and he and his wife Jodi live close to Eureka Springs, with her 2 kids! My dad bless his heart is so funny, he tries so hard to be cool, but just doesn't get there. At least we can all laugh with him though, and he appreciates our humor! His wife Jodi is so sweet and talented!  In total I have 7 step-siblings, 5 step nieces and nephews, and 3 by marriage niece and nephews. 

Finally there is the rest of my family, my Grandma Mary, my other Grandparents Carolyn and Charles, 7 aunts, 6 uncles (2 blood), and 33 cousins!

Now on to my friends who I do consider family, as I spend a lot of time with them! Lacey lives in Little Rock and works as a nanny, and is a student. Theresa lives in Fayetteville, and works in logistics. When we are together we make up a self named group known as BLT! Nichole or Nikki as I call her lives in Rogers with her husband Sam. She is a criminal justice student, and works in claims, and Sam is a police officer. Ashlee and Rene is our couple friends, as well as Mel and Kostas!

These are the people make up my life. I will talk about them often, so sit back and relax, and breath it in because I love these people!

Blessed? Yes very much!

Do you ever wonder why we are so blessed, or even realize that we are blessed? As I gather inspiration from my sister, who I will tell you about later, she has to written a blog about the pros and cons of being a student working on their masters. This leads me to tell you about my blessings and struggles to become a professional cake artist. We all see the shows like The Cake Boss, Charm City Cakes, The Food Networks Challenge, and the list goes on. What these shows fail to show is the extreme time, effort, and money it takes to build one of these masterpieces. Now, do I consider myself a Buddy Valastro or Duff Goldman, no, but do I consider myself talented enough to run and be successful in owning my own cakery, definitely.

I started decorating cakes at Wal-Mart in Feb of 2002. Within a week, I was decorating orders and not just icing cakes. I owe a lot to those wonderful ladies in the "cake room", for teaching my initial knowledge of cake decorating. So thank you Theresa, Sandra, Jenni, and Marilyn, you taught me so much. You may be asking, is that Theresa one of your best friends? The answer is yes, she was the most patient with me, and took my side when I was falling behind. We both worked there for a little over 5 years, and we both moved on to greener pastures. We dabbled in the cake business with each other after we left Wal-Mart. Theresa lost interest, I kept going, and here I am in 2011 seriously trying to open the cake shop/bakery. As with any business venture there are a lot of road blocks, but I'm optimistic I can push through them. I was blessed with the talent of being creative. I can make just about anything. Specifically cakes, and home decor. I have been able to teach myself many new techniques through books, magazines, the Internet and a social website for professional cake decorators.  

The cake programs all show these massive tierd and sculpted cakes that most people I know can't afford. Most cakes cost between $1,200, and $10,000. The problem for me is, most people I know want that kind of cake, and I am not financially able to make those cakes, nor do I like the thought of charging something extra past the cost of the cake. Now the cost of these cakes aren't cheap either, not to mention the time, design, and the stress that comes with making a tierd or sculpted cake. BUT I LOVE LOVE LOVE this job and I wouldn't trade my abilities for anything! So yes I do consider myself so blessed.
